What to expect from your first wedding dress appointment:

After arriving at Occasions By Design bridal shop, you will be offered refreshments and you will have a one to one consultation to discuss your day, your style, your ideas, in fact, anything you want to tell us about yourself and your fiancé. This will help us get a thorough understanding of what you desire.

Then you can browse our wedding gowns and choose a selection to start with or we can do this for you if you’re unsure of your style, we seem to know what will look incredible on you, don’t worry if you don’t find the perfect dress instantly, we always go back and choose more anyway that’s the fun bit!

How long will your appointment be

The first appointment is usually between 1 – 1.5 hours, this is normally more than enough time, however, we know how important this decision is, therefore, if you’re not 100% we advise you give yourself a rest, have a think and come back at a later date. By booking an appointment you help us ensure you get the full undivided attention you need and deserve. Picking a wedding dress is a big deal, and we want to make it fun and easy for you.

What to wear

We find this is where a lot of brides to be can get stressed and worried. When coming for your first wedding dress appointment (and any after) we advise you wear nude or white underwear as well as a strapless bra. If you already have your wedding shoes feel free to bring them along, if not, don’t worry we have plenty you can try on with the dresses.

How many people should I bring?

This day is about you and what you want, too many family members and friends can sometimes be overwhelming and conflicting, think about the opinion you value and trust the most. We would suggest no more than 3 guests. Please refrain from bringing younger children if possible this is your day to relax and be spoilt.

What sizes are your wedding dresses?

We stock dresses from size 4 to 26.

What’s the price range of wedding dresses?

Our prices can start from as little as £200 and include some short length and some light dresses ideal for overseas weddings , The majority of our off the peg wedding dresses are designer and RRP price would have between £800 and £3000 but every dress in our off the peg collection has a discount, some up to 70% off, which we are sure will enable you to have that designer dress at a price you’ll love and take away on the day.

Our made to order dresses start from £500 and can take up to 6 months to arrive but they are from some stunning British Designers. We also have our own collection which can arrive in 2 weeks.


We do ask, please refrain from wearing fake tan, it comes off onto the dresses and is almost impossible to remove and therefore may incur dry cleaning costs. If you can also refrain from wearing heavy makeup and lipstick too we would be grateful.

How do I order

Every off the peg dress is available to take away on the day so full payment on the day by cash or card is accepted. You can also pay a 20% a non-refundable deposit and we will hold your dress for up to 2 weeks, where you can pay the remainder over an agreed instalment plan, via bank transfer or come back another day, pay the balance and take your dress away with you. Please be advised our stock can change daily and we wouldn’t want you to be disappointed if your dress is no longer available if you choose to come back another day.

Dresses to order will require a 50% deposit to order and further details will be discussed with you on the day.

What else do I need

We can help you pick out shoes, veils, tiaras, and anything else you might need. Once you have decided on your dress, follow up with an appointment for your bridesmaids.

What if my wedding dress needs alterations

We have a fantastic qualified and professional independent seamstresses that we can recommend. Our seamstresses will personally recommend the necessary work needed and we will advise of the cost individually. Alterations are not included in the price of the dress. Alteration costs required are the sole responsibility of the customer and between the customer and the seamstress. Occasions  by Design will not be liable for any damages or costs may these occur. This service is between the customer and the seamstress. You are always welcome to find your own seamstress too.

All consultations and fitting appointments are carried out in the boutique at an agreed date and time.

What about pressing? Our alterations services include a professional press and steam.
